Take Action Against Pound Seizure
2005 POUND SEIZURE-RELATED STATE LEGISLATION

(NY) Prohibition on Transport of Animals Into State
Sponsor: Lafayette (D)
Disposition : Pending
Location: Assembly Agriculture Committee
Website: http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A05576

Bill Description: This bill prohibits the importation into the state of animals that are acquired from animal shelters or "pounds" if those animals will be used for research, testing or experiments.

Action: Please contact your state Assemblyperson and urge him or her to support A 5576. Tell your Assemblyperson that animal shelters should provide safe shelter to dogs and cats, not serve as supply houses for laboratories. It is a violation of the public trust for animals from animal control facilities and animal shelters to be sold for use at medical and educational institutions. This bill would extend protection to companion animals by preventing their acquisition from out-of-state animal shelters in order to supply in-state research facilities.

(PA) Dog Code of 1982
Sponsor: Adolph (R)
Disposition: Pending
Location: House Judiciary Committee
Website: http://www.legis.state.pa.us/WU01/LI/BI/ALL/2005/0/HB0165.HTM

Bill Description: Existing law prohibits the sale or transfer of dogs from animal shelters to research facilities in a practice commonly known as "pound seizure." This bill would extend that same protection to cats as well. The bill also addresses other issues relating to stray animals housed at animal shelters.

Action: Please contact your state Representative and urge him or her to support H 165. Tell your Representative that animal shelters should provide safe shelter to dogs and cats, not serve as supply houses for laboratories.
